Milano – hot, energetic, stylish, turbulent… we’ve arrived! What an exciting place to be! I’m wishing we had more than 3 days to get over the jet lag, find our bearings, adjust to the traffic going the opposite way, as well as enjoy the city’s sights, cuisine and culture.

First priority is to collect my much-anticipated custom-made bike. At the Passoni Atelier I’m looked after by the wonderful Stefano who guides me through the factory, explaining the bike building process and introducing me to the artisan bike builders who have crafted my beautiful machine.

Thanks to the Passoni team, Mc Cyclery in Sydney and riderfit in Geelong for making this happen. I’ve only had the one ride, yet immediately noticed how much more comfortable, smooth and responsive the bike is – I can sense this is a bike I’m going to enjoy riding a lot.

Tomorrow we head off in our camper van otherwise known as our stately home for the next 2 months. A couple of days in Muggia by the Gulf of Trieste before heading off on the first leg of our riding odyssey.

So what is the bikes name?

Passoni Queen of the Alps, Godess of high passes and steep climbs.

Oh. That may take some time. And that assumes it needs a name. Hoffy was always Hoffy, so this might be simply Passoni. For me it invokes passion. Passion to ride the mountains.
