About to head off from Rifugio Biella when we learn that a big chunk of the Croda Rossa has collapsed and covered our route. Only happened a few weeks ago. Over two million tons of red rock sliced from the side of the mountain. Bits still falling off. Not safe. Detour!.
The route was going to be challenging in any case – more via ferrata and some tricky ledges to negotiate.
We are forced into another lengthy and steep descent. Fortunately, we can take a bus up to rejoin our route on the other side.
Along the way we stop off at a lovely cafe with great views of the Croda Rossa and the rockfall.
Turns out the owners went to Australia for their honeymoon and brought back some interesting memorabilia.

Lunch time we find a power station for electric bikes and cars!
